Khmeli Suneli, is a creation stemming from the historical spice trade between Europe and Asia. As different spices arrived from India, the locals incorporated these new, exotic spices into traditional herb blends to create this east-meets-west medley.
The recipe varies by region and availability of local herbs, but it typically consists of blue fenugreek, coriander, summer savory, and turmeric. We add dill, cumin, marjoram, curry powder, caraway seed, and a small amount of salt to Suneli Valley’s Khmeli Suneli.
This creates a mixture of warm, nutty, herbaceous, and slightly bitter flavors. Uniquely fragrant and versatile, this spice can be added to any savory, particularly items off the grill or in hearty stews.
Popular recipes that use khmeli suneli include Lobio, and Spinach Pkhali
